How to setup a Hot Swap Drive

热插拔 （Hot Swap） 即带电插拔，指的是在不关闭系统电源的情况下，将模块、板卡插入或拔出系统而不影系统的正常工作，从而提高了系统的可靠性、快速维修性、冗余性和对灾难的及时恢复能力等。

Hot plugging describes only the addition of components to a running computer system. [2] Components which have such functionality are said to be hot-swappable or hot-pluggable; likewise, components which do not are cold-swappable or cold-pluggable.

熱插拔（Hot Swap、Hot Plug、Hot Dock）是指在系統導電的工作狀態下，將模組、卡或連接器插到系統上而不影響系統的操作。 圖1所示為熱插拔過程，其中左邊代表系統及其供電，在供電的輸出端有一個電容，右側有兩張卡，這些卡的輸入端也有電容。

因此，一旦某個元件故障或需要升級，就必須在不中斷系統運作的情況下完成更換。 這代表板卡或模組必須可以在系統持續運行的狀態下被拔除與插入。 這樣的過程被稱為「熱插拔」 (hot swapping 或 hot plugging)。

In the computer field, hot swapping means the replacement or addition of components to a computer system without interruption, shutting down, or rebooting of the system whereas hot plugging only refers to the addition of components.

Parasitic Inductance on the Input and Output of a hot-swap can be detrimental to the reliability and performance of the hot-swap, especially when high currents are involved.
